Why show your food hygiene rating?
Your food hygiene rating is one of the first things customers check. Displaying it on your website builds instant trust and can increase bookings.
Builds customer confidence
A visible 4 or 5-star rating tells visitors your kitchen meets high standards. It's social proof that works around the clock.
Required by law in Wales and Northern Ireland
Under the Food Hygiene Rating (Wales) Act 2013 and equivalent NI legislation, food businesses must display their rating. In England, it's voluntary β but displaying it signals transparency.
Always up to date
The widget links to your FSA record. When your rating changes after an inspection, the badge reflects it β no manual updates needed.
How the rating works
Environmental Health Officers inspect food businesses and rate them 0 to 5 based on three areas:
- Hygienic food handling β preparation, cooking, cooling, storage
- Physical condition β cleanliness, layout, ventilation, pest control
- Food safety management β HACCP procedures, training, temperature records
US restaurant grades
In the US, health inspections are run by local departments. NYC uses letter grades (A/B/C) displayed in restaurant windows. Los Angeles and San Francisco use numeric scores (0-100). Chicago uses Pass/Fail. Our widget supports all formats.
